A passenger travelling from Atlanta Hartdfield-Jackson International Airport to Tokyo Narita International Airport has been discovered to have carried a firearm and was not discovered by the security agencies. He successfully flew all the way to Tokyo. This happened on 3 January, 2019.

The Transport Safety Authority has revealed that the standard screening procedures were not followed. The traveler later disclosed to Delta Airlines that he had traveled with a firearm and he was reported to the authorities.

This clearly was a security breach that happened during the US government shutdown. The Transport Security Agency (TSA) agents are required to work but they do not receive their pay during this time. The cnn reported that many of these agents are taking leave days on the grounds of being sick and hence the security breach at Delta Airlines.
