The government is seeking permanent solution to the ongoing floods that have caused several floods.

 

The government spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, said the government will prioritize the construction of dykes and Koru-Soin dam to control floods in Nyando and other areas.

 

Isaac Mwaura also assured that President William Ruto is emphasizing that Ksh. 19.9 billion Koru-Soin dam is at the center of development agenda.

 

The dam was stalled due to inadequate and delay of payment to the contractor. The government has prioritized the project.

 

He reveals that the government has advertised for Expression of Interest of Ksh. 100 dams through PPP across Kenya.

 

He called on private partner to express interest to help build the dam. The government is seeking new financial model.

 

Currently, it needs Ksh. 25 billion to complete the dam which cannot be funded through taxes. Kenya is struggling with huge debts that must be paid.

 

The country is supposed to be paying Ksh. 40 billion. The spokesperson was accompanied by Red Cross Sec General Idriss Ahmed, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa and Kisumu County Commissioner Benson Leparmarijo.

 

They praised their partners for supporting flood victims. Mwaura presided over distribution of food and non-food victims at Nduru Mixed Secondary School in Kabonyo, Kanyagwal, Nyando Sub County.

 

He confirmed that 238 people died 70 missing and 74 sustaining serious injuries. A total of 240,000 are affected by floods in Kenya.

 

At least 40,000 persons are displaced in Nyanza. The national government  has partnered with Red Cross and Kisumu County to provide for the needy and affected families.

 

Isaac Mwaura and Red Cross emphasized that due to hecklers who tried to heckle their Member of County Assembly for Kabonyo Kanyagwal.
