Kenya 2017 Political Campaigns

This is a time for Kenya political campaigns. Many political aspirants are fighting to get as many votes as possible. They use all means to get your eyeballs including but not limited to use of posters, flyers, banners, radio and television advertisements.

Competition

The competition between politicians for space on walls and along the streets does not end there. I think  even commercial firms might be finding it very difficult to find advertisement space.

Posters or environment eye-sore?

Do you remember after the 2013 General elections when Mike Sonko (Senator for Nairobi County) and Rachel Shebesh (Women Representative) took it upon themselves to clean the city. The posters left after the campaigns were polluting the environment.

The National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has come up with a strategy to clean the environment after the elections. The agency will require aspirants or their political parties to deposit a bond with NEMA to be used for the above mentioned exercise.

Strategy or disagreement

The leading opposition coalition popularly known as NASA is either undecided or they have a strategy of keeping us guessing who will fly their presidential flag. Is it Kalonzo Musyoka, Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula or Musalia Mudavadi? It is not so clear at this point.

Party Primaries

All political parties are required by law to carry out their nominations and identify the flag bearers. This is going on and we’ve witnessed lots of dirty tactics. Voter bribery and rigging of these mini-elections has been rife. It’s so sad. Democracy has been raped and we demand justice.

Dirty tricks

We’ve witnessed cases of violence in some parts of Kenya. It all started with Migori County incidences where Prof. Anyang Nyong had to dive below the podium to escape live bullets. Many politicians read this act of shooting Gov. Hassan Joho’s bodyguards as an assassination attempt on his life.

Governor Zachary Okoth Obado was alleged to be behind this fracas. He vehemently denied such claims. All the same the ODM members had triggered this particular scene by openly supporting one Ochilo Ayacko for governor’s seat.

Disappearances

In Kabete constituency, an MP aspirants disappeared and was later found unconscious in Narok County. He was rushed to an hospital there before returning home in Kabete. I read this as intimidation of the highest order.

I will update you on this topic as the campaigns develop…
