Dr Alexander Shiplyuk, is a hypersonic missile scientist from Russia, and has been arrested.
Alexander is the director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in the Russian Academy of Science branch in Siberia.
He is also the head of a technology lab used for stimulating hypersonic conditions. Alexander now becomes the third top scientist to be arrested over suspected treason. He was sent to Lefortovo pre-trial detention center in Moscow.
Alexander’s arrest comes after Anatoly Maslov’s arrest on June 27 for suspicion on transferring state secret data on hyper-sonic missiles. Maslov is a chief researcher in the institute.
Dmitry Kolker, a researcher at the Institute of Laser Physics was also arrested for allegedly collaborating with China. Kolker had been diagnosed with cancer and died during transfer from pre-trial detention center.
Russia, China and the United States are on the process of making hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) weapons. These advanced military weapons are capable of flying under all modes of radar detection systems and missile defenses.
