The body of soccer star, Christian Atsu who died weeks ago in Turkey earthquake has been transported to his home country Ghana. 

 

Christian was found in a rubble under his home in Southern Turkey. At the time of his death, he was playing for Hatayspor football club. 

 

He had played football for Ghana national Team in 65 appearances.

Previously, he played soccer for English clubs such as Everton and Newcastle. 

 

“We hoped against hope, every day that passed, we prayed and prayed. But alas, when he was found, he was no more,” said Ghana’s Vice President Mahamudu Bawmia. 

 

At least 44,000 people are confirmed to have lost their lives in the 7.8 earthquake which affected both Turkey and Syria. 

 

Christian Atsu is survived by his wife Marie-Claire Rupio and their three children.
