Mansa Musa, the Ruler of Mali Empire in the 1`4th Century was the richest man who ever lived. He had unimaginable or incalculable wealth! He was the richest man ever lived. 

 

His wealth outdoes all the modern billionaires such as Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Aliko Dangote and Jeff Bezos among others. 

 

Empire went to decline in the 15th Century. The story of Mansa Musa is forgotten in the Western World because of the Trans-Atlantic Trade and colonialism and how they depicted Africa in their literature.

Mansa Musa is most remembered for his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 when he was accompanied by over 60,000 men, 12,000 slaves and 80 camels carrying 300 pounds of gold. 

 

When he arrived in Cairo Egypt he gave people gifts in gold which crashed the local economy which only recovered after 12 years. 

 

The ruler of Mali Empire had  transformed his empire into a centre of Islamic scholarship. Scholars from practically all over the world traveled to Timbuktu University to learn more about Islam. 

 

Timbuktu City was the capital City of the Mali Empire. Mansa Musa’ wealth was diversified. He owned half of the world’s gold at the time, herds of livestock, salt, sold ivory from elephants, owned vast tracts of land and thousands of slaves. 

 

Mali Empire was made up of the modern nations of Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia, Niger, Guinea, Nigeria and Chad. It was huge.
