The Job Creation Commission Ethiopia has indicated that the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak has led to loss of over 330,000 jobs in Ethiopia and millions more will be affected in the coming year. This is according to the findings of a recent report on impact of Covid-19 on employment.

The Commission also estimates that up to 1.76 million jobs in construction and manufacturing alone will be lost in the next half a year.

So far, a total of 330,000 jobs have been lost. Despite the current events of job losses the Job Creation Commission aims at creating 14 million jobs in the next 5 years and 20 million jobs in the next 10 years.

Master Card Foundation made available a grant valued at $11.8 million to support job creation through financing women run-businesses which produce products used in preventing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

The government of Ethiopia called upon the international community to donate $4.2 billion for food aid for 30 million people who are directly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
