Zimbabwean Health minister Dr Obadiah Moyo has been sacked over alleged involvement in corruption.

In June, Mr Moyo was arrested and detained on charges of abuse of office and corruption in connection with Covid-19 equipment procurement scandal. He was later released on bail.

Minister Moyo awarded a lucrative tender to Drax international for the supply of Covid-19 PPEs and drugs despite the company failing the vetting process.

Reports indicate that the company is a consultancy firm and not a pharmaceutical entity.

President Mnangagwa’s chief secretary Misheck Sibanda issued a statement saying minister Moyo had been relieved of his duties.

‘’In terms of section 340, subsection (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the President has removed Dr Obadiah Moyo form the office of Cabinet Minister with immediate effect for conduct inappropriate for a Government Minister,” the statement read.

Anti-corruption organizations and various political parties are president Mnangagwa to sack all corrupt officials in the government.

July 31 has been set as a day for national protest against corruption.
