Sharing is Caring

The government of India recently banned TikTok and other Chinese-made apps saying they were a danger to the country.

A total of 59 Chinese made apps were banned including the messaging app WeChat.

ByteDance is the parent company of TikTok and it has its headquarters in Beijing, China.

India has about 120 Million Tiktok users. More than 800 Million people in the world use the short-video app.

Reports have emerged that the Chinese-owned app allows the Chinese government access the data of its users.

TikTok has refuted the claims.

The United States is one of the biggest critics of the app and wants the investigations launched.

In a statement, India’s government said the apps were ‘’prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order’’.

India’s ministry of Information Technology accuses the Chinese-made apps of ‘’stealing and transmitting the users data in an unauthorised manner’’.

“The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” the ministry said.

Microblogging platform Weibo is among the apps banned by the Indian government.
