Vera Putina was a Georgian woman who claimed that she was the biological mother of Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.
Vera Putina claims that she was made pregnant by a Russian mechanic, Platon Privalov, who impregnated her when he was already married to another woman.
Putina was married by a Georgian soldier, Giorgi Osepahvili who forced her to abandon her son, Vladimir Putin.
Vera Putina says that she allowed her son to live with her parents who later gave him up for adoption.
She lost touch after that she later learnt that her son was in KGB. Any journalists who tried to join the dots was murdered in the process.
She never spoke for many years about it. However, she was believed that Vladimir Putin was her son. Russian and Georgian people were sent to tell her to be silent about the story. Putina was ready to do DNA tests to prove her claim.
Eventually she came forward but her story was not widely accepted in Russia. The president himself ignored it.
However, the story attracted lots of attention overseas among journalists.
Vera Putina died on May 2023 in Tbilisi, Georgia aged 96. On 30 May 2023 she was buried in Metekhi.
