Mason Greenwood is still taking home his £75,000 a week in wages from Manchester United despite his arrest over rape and Grievous Bodily Harm allegations.

 

 

The Man United striker was arrested after his girlfriend went public over rape allegations. It has now been revealed that he will continue receiving his weekly salary of £75,000 as the team waits for the outcome of the criminal court proceedings.

 

 

The Sun Newspaper of the UK reported that other clubs have in the past continued paying players suspended with a prominent example being City Star Benjamin Mendy.

 

 

Initially, Manchester United Stated that they do “not condone violence of any kind” and later suspended Greenwood following police launch of an investigation on the player.

 

 

A second statement read; 

 

 

“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

 

 

On Sunday night the police invaded the football player’s residence in Bowdon in Greater Manchester and arrested him. Eye witness saw crime scene vans parked outside Greenwood’s house following the allegations.

 

 

The promising career of Greenwood at the domestic and international level in now in jeopardy following his arrest.

 

 

 

The  Greater Manchester Police spokesman said; 

 

 

“Police were made aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

 

“An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. 

 

“He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
