Brazilian club Santos have confirmed that Jorge Sampaoli has stepped down as Head Coach.

In a statement, Santos said that Sampaoli, whose contract with the club was to expire at the end of 2020 tendered his resignation in a meeting held on Monday.

The former Sevilla and Argentina boss took charge of Santos in December 2019 and helped the club to secure second place in the 2019 Brasileirao, 16 points behind Champions Flamengo.

The 59 year old has been linked with the vacant Head Coach post at Arsenal but latest reports in Brazil indicate that he is in talks with Palmeiras, who finished third in the league table.
