Hamas was founded in 1987, some 36 years ago by the late Sheikh Ahmad Yassin.
At the time Sheikh Ahmad Yassin was the spiritual leader of Hamas in Gaza Strip.
He was born in January 1937 and at the age of 12 he was involved in a sporting accident which left him bond to a wheelchair ever since.
In his career, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, worked as a teacher, preacher as well as community worker.
The late Sheikh Ahmad Yassin was assassinated on March 22, 2004 by an Israel helicopter as he left a mosque located in Northern Gaza.
Previously in 1973, the late Sheikh Ahmad Yassin established the Islamic Centre in Gaza Strip.
According to available information we have found out that Hamas is one of the strongest Islamic resistance movement in the world.
Hamas means zeal in Arabic.
