Sharing is Caring

Former Auditor General Edward Ouko has officially handed over the mandate to Nancy Gathungu, Kenya’s new AG.

The handing over ceremony was held at Anniversary Towers on Thursday.

Ms Gathungu praised Edward Ouko and expressed her readiness to make the AG’s office better.

‘’We can only go higher from where you have left us. There’s no going back.’’ Said Ms Gathungu.

“I will build on your legacy and ensure that we continue developing and upscaling our auditing services to meet the needs of the people and stakeholders,” she added.

Ms Gathungu, who was sworn in on Friday in a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice David Maraga, said that her priority was to clear audit backlogs.

The office of the AG fell vacant in August 2019 when Edward Ouko retired after an 8-year stint.

Ms Gathungu promised that she will build on the legacy left by Edward Ouko using four pillars namely: Indipendence, credibility, relevance and accountability.

She will serve an eight-year term in office.
