Sharing is Caring

Criminal gangs in Ghana operated a fake US embassy for over a decade. This illegal network is made up of gangs from Ghana and Turkey’s organized crimes.

The network issued illegally obtained visas (authentic) to the unsuspecting people. It is interesting that the pink, two storey building has a flag flying over it. Inside it, there is a portrait of President Barack Obama hanging on its walls.

“It was not operated by the United States government, but by figures from both Ghanaian and Turkish organised crime rings and a Ghanaian attorney practising immigration and criminal law,”  said the State Department in a statement.

This criminal ring was in the business of issueing authentic visas which were fraudulently obtained through bribery. The embassy charged $6,000 for identification documents and visas.

On getting the information, a raid was conducted and several people arrested. Counterfeit and authentic visas for India, Schengen and South Africa plus 150 passports for 10 different countries were seized.

In Africa, visas for western countries are on high demand. That is why they have attracted organized criminal gangs. It seems that everyone wants to migrate to the US, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Netherlands among other countries. In some circumstances Africans have been crossing to Europe even without the essential documents.

The true or real US embassy in Ghana is located in Cantonments – a highly fortified complex building. This is the leafy suburbs of Accra, Ghana.

The fake embassy only opened its offices three days per week and operated only in the morning hours. Walk-ins were not allowed or encouraged. The criminals brought in their clients from across West Africa.
