Rupert Murdoch has played a central role in shaping media terrain around the world. 


He is a major media owner in Australia, USA and United Kingdom. He was born in Melbourne in 1931 to Sir Keith Murdoch who owned controlling shares on the Adelaide Newspaper. 


In 1968, Rupert Murdoch purchased a newspaper in the UK known as News of the World. He also purchased the Sun Newspaper in the UK. 


By 1986, Rupert Murdoch owned four newspapers in the United Kingdom. He moved them into a large printing plant based in London and sacked 5,000 employees. 


After that Rupert moved on to revolutionize television. He launched sky satellite TV. This is what introduced satellite dishes to many UK homes.


In 1976, Rupert Murdoch acquired the New York Post in the United States of America. 


In 1985, News Corp purchased 20th Century Corp and that is how he came to own a Hollywood Studio. 


He owned HarperCollins (leading book publisher) and Star TV in Hong Kong which broadcast across Asia. 


“People say we’re anti-competitive when we do something which is open for anybody in the world to do,” he once said.


Rupert has been married four times. His first marriage was to Patricia Booker in 1956. 


Rupert Murdoch stayed with his second wife Anna Torv for 32 years before they divorced. In 2013, he married his third wife Wendi Deng. 


At the age, 85, in 2016 he married his 4th wife ex-model Jerry Hall. They divorced after a half a decade together. 


Lachlan Murdoch, 52, has taken leadership as the head of News Corp and Fox. 


Forbes Magazine estimates that Murdoch family’s net worth is estimated to be $17.4 billion.
