Sharing is Caring

Diego the tortoise mating helped safe his species from extinction by having hundreds of children and now will be returned to Galapagos Islands after spending more than 20 years in bondage.

Diego the tortoise was known for being prolific in having sex during his captivity to save his species. He is one of the few giant tortoises which were surviving at the time.

The 100-year old is known to have fathered an excess of 800 off springs.

Now conservationists have made a decision to release Diego into the wild in his native Espanola Island.

Diego the tortoise was initially retrieved from San Diego Zoo some 40 years ago to participate in the conservation program.
