Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government has ordered action against police who will be found blameworthy for being brutal on JKUAT students on Monday.
“I have spoken to the IG (Inspector General) and we both agree that firm and decisive action shall be taken against any officer who used excessive force, within the next 24 hours,” Said Matiang’i in a statement.
CS Matiang’i added that the use of force by police is clearly described in the National Police Service Standing Orders.
This is after a video emerged of police officers brutalizing an unarmed JKUAT student during demonstrations at the institution.
And I add my voice. This is totally unacceptable. Police beating University student at JKUAT. Utterly disgusting. This is too much force and these officers are right within the internal affairs to face disciplinary action pic.twitter.com/sLZG8F6PCG

Another batch of officers, in a second video, are seen breaking down the gates of a student’s apartment and then firing tear gas canisters to smoke them out.
Kenyans also asked for action to be taken against those police officers on social media.
National Police Service said that police officers are not authorized to use excessive force in their line of duty.
”Following the unfortunate incident, the Internal Affairs Unit has been directed to commence investigations and make recommendations for action within 24 hours,” the statement reads.
