The People’s Republic of China won the largest number of gold medals at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympic games at 38. 

 

China was followed closely by USA at 36 golds. However, USA emerged the champion in terms of total number of all types of medals at 108 compared to China’s 87 medals. 

 

Kenya ranked at position 25 emerged the leading African country with a total of 9 medals followed by Egypt which took home 6 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze) and was ranked at position 38. Uganda and Ethiopia tie at position 3 both of which took home a total of 4 medals and ranked at position 46. These two African nations also tied with Israel, Venezuela, Philippines, Slovakia, Uzbekistan, Romania and Portugal. Clearly the two East African nations made Africa proud. 

 

South Africa (number 4 in Africa), took home a total of 3 medals (1 gold and 2 silver). The rainbow nation was ranked at position 58 out of 87.
