Marcelo Bielsa has signed a one-year contract extension with Leeds United.

The 65-year-old joined Leeds United two seasons ago, on a two-year contract with an option of a third that has now been finalised.

The former Atletico Madrid, Chile and Argentina boss led Leeds United to promotion to the Premier League last season, having fallen short in the play-offs in the 2018-19 campaign.

It is the first time in 16 years that Leeds United will be playing in the English top-flight.

A statement published on the club’s website read: ‘’Leeds United are pleased to confirm Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new one-year deal with the club to remain as head coach for the 2020/21 season.’’

Bielsa has led Leeds United to 56 wins, 17 draws and 27 defeats in 100 games in charge.

Leeds United will face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday in their 2020-21 season opener.
