Learning institutions in Zambia will reopen as from September 14 following a significant drop in coronavirus cases.

“I announce the reopening of all schools, colleges and universities with caution, between September 14 and 18, subject to adherence to public health guidelines.” Said president Edgar Lungu on Friday during the official reopening of the parliament.

President Lungu said bars would reopen on a pilot basis while observing the guidelines aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus.

He said bars would operate from Fridays to Sundays from 18:00 to 23:00.

“In March, I ordered closure of bars in March to fight Covid-19. I have listened to the suffering of owners of bars and nightclubs have experienced due to closure… I therefore announce partial reopening of these places effective Friday,” he said.

A total of 13,214 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Zambia with the virus claiming 300 lives
