Sharing is Caring

Australian billionaire, Andrew Forrest, $21.7 billion fortune has called for the phasing out of fossil fuels.

Andrew Forrest, aka Twiggy, said this at the sidelines of CoP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“Companies that don’t stop burning fossil fuels will have ‘blood on their hands'” said billionaire Andrew Forrest.

Being a rich man, Andrew Forrest paid for ads in leading newspapers globally and attached the entire oil and gas industry.

His advert was published on New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Washington Post, Times of India and the Australian among others.

Andrew Forrest added that CoP 28 could have “enormous historic relevancy” if countries declared fossil fuels should be phased out and not just ‘abated’.

“Look, I would have thought it’s unlikely that a call to phase out fossil fuel would get a lot of airplay because the petro-state and fossil fuel sector sent thousands and thousands of lobbyists here” Forrest told the Guardian.

Forrest reveals that according to him, only one question should have been asked at CoP28: “When are you going to stop burning fossil fuel?” and NOT “What’s your net zero 2050 plan?”

In Australia, Andrew Forrest’s advert was followed by a full-page campaign in Australian newspapers by Woodside (an oil & gas company) which was promoting its proposed Scarborough gas field. This will lead to emissions of billions of tonnes of harmful gases.

Andrew Forrest arrived in style at the CoP28 in Dubai. He arrived aboard a ship nicknamed “Green Pioneer” which runs on four engines. Two of which run on diesel and green ammonia (from Green Hydrogen). He said that this is the beginning of an era of pollution-free shipping.
