President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa named 10 roads after himself and this act has sparked outrage. This happened on Friday 22 Nov. He first changed the names from those given by the colonialists and picked a few of those roads to bear his name. What a way of trying to leave a legacy!
President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa made this possible through the help of Cabinet Committee on Place Names.
For instance, Hughes Street in Mazvingo has been baptized Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Street. Elsewhere, Etherton Road in Bindura will now be known as Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Road.
Zimbabweans reacted to the naming of roads saying that, “Zimbabweans will be calling his name in eight cities every day, forever. That is the ‘big idea’ while the country degenerates into unprecedented political and economic mayhem.”
“The public hospital system has collapsed. Citizens are dying like flies. The power blackouts are now permanent. Hyperinflation has spiralled out of control. But they sat and named roads after themselves,” tweeted Tendai Biti the Vice President of the Movement for Democratic Change.
The public hospital system has collapsed. Citizens are dying like flies. The power blackouts are now permanent . Hyperinflation has spiraled out of control . But they sat and named roads after themselves . Easily the worst government in the history of governments .
