Sharing is Caring

Yusuf Hamied & family  has a net worth of $4.3 billion. Yusuf is a non-executive chairman of Cipla which is a generics drugs maker.

The company was established in 1935 by Khwaja Abdul Hamied who was a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi.

When the founder who was educated in Cambridge passed away in 1972, the business was inherited by his brother Mustafa.

Hamied competed against large pharmaceutical companies by offering affordable generics for diseases such as AIDs and hence he was nicknamed drug pirate.

In August 2023, during Annual General Meeting of shareholders, Mustafa said that the reports of a potential sale of Cipla by the family to private equity was speculative.

Mustafa earned a Master of Science and a doctorate degree from Cambridge University.
