Holland and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was named as the UEFA Men’s player of the year beating Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi and Juventus and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Virgil van Dijk has been solid at the heart of Liverpool defense, helping the club to win the UEFA Champions League last season. Liverpool also came close to winning the English Premier League.

Van Dijk was also outstanding for The Dutch national team. He played a Key role and helped the national team reach the UEFA Nations Final.

Virgil van Dijk was also named as the UEFA defender of the year 2018/2019.

‘’It has been a long road, I’m very proud to get this trophy, and it is all credit to everyone who has contributed.’’ Virgil van Dijk said after he won the award.
