The Health Ministry of Tanzania has suspended top Directors of the National Health Laboratory, Dr. Nyambura Moremi and Jacob Lusekelo in wake of statements by President John Pombe Magufuli.
Lusekelo serves as quality assurance manager and Dr. Moremi is the director of the National Health Laboratory.
On Sunday, President Magufuli instructed the investigation of kits used to test coronavirus in Tanzania after non-human samples tested positive for the virus.
Random non-human samples that had been assigned human names and were submitted to Tanzania’s laboratory to test for Coronavirus, with the lab technicians left unaware of their origins.
Magufuli said that the findings revealed something was amiss at the national laboratory and he accused the officials of releasing too many positive Coronavirus results.
A 10-man committee has been appointed by Health minister Ummy Mwalimu to investigate the collection and testing of Covid – 19 samples. The committee will submit its report within 10 days.
