The supreme court of Kenya upholds Uhuru’s victory
The supreme court of Kenya has upheld the 26th October presidential election. Uhuru Kenyatta was announced as the winner.
The Chief Justice, David Maraga said that they will issue a detailed decision within the next 21 days. He delivered the ruling in less than 10 minutes. The petitions did not convince the court to nullify Uhuru’s victory.
The petitions were filed by the former Kilome MP, Harun Mwau and other activists Khalifa Khelif and Njonjo Mue. The petitions were filed seeking the nullification of Uhuru’s victory for the second time.
The petitioners were allowed to submit petitions separately but they were heard together.
The winner will be sworn in seven days after the supreme court’s verdict. The ceremony will take place on 28th November 2017.

The NASA leader, Raila Odinga said that the results of 8th August were invalid and challenged the process of the second election. He eventually pulled out of the race.

All the judges who heard the case said that the cases filed to nullify the 26th October results had no merit.
Ahamednassir Abdulahi, Uhuru Kenyatta’s lawyer applauded the verdict and said that it is time for Uhuru to lead for the next five years.
