Ligue 1 side Strasbourg have confirmed four new coronavirus cases with the 2020-21 season starting in less than three weeks.

Strasbourg’s friendly against Reims on Saturday has been cancelled.

Francois Pietra, Strasbourg’s team doctor said: ’’These tests unfortunately confirm what we feared but we are working in close collaboration and in total transparency with the regional health agency.

‘’A specific preventative health protocol is implemented by the club and we apply all the instructions recommended by the authorities.’’

All the affected individuals have been isolated.

The new Ligue 1 season is scheduled to start on the weekend of August 22-23.

Strasbourg, who finished 10th in 2019-20 campaign, will start the season with a trip to Lorient on August 23.

The 2019-20 season was ended prematurely due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Final placings were decided on a points-per-game basis.
