Authorities in Spain have imposed a lockdown in Galicia, north-west region, after a rise in coronavirus cases.

Same restrictions were imposed in Catalonia on Saturday.

Only those working will be allowed to leave and enter La Marina from midnight Sunday to Friday.

The region about 70,000 people. Health officials announced on Sunday that people would remain free to move around the area.

Wearing of face masks is compulsory and gatherings of more than 10 people are banned.

The surge in covid-19 cases in Galicia has been linked with reopening of bars. Capacity in bars and restaurants will now be reduced by half.

Spain has recorded a more that 250,000 coronavirus cases and more than 28,385 deaths.

The north-eastern region of Catalonia imposed a similar lockdown on Saturday.

Catalan president Quim Torra announced that no one will be allowed to leave Segria district west of Barcelona.

Non-residents were told to leave and residents are advised not to travel between towns in Segria.
