Caro light and other skin lightening products that are not allowed in the market have been seized in Nakuru.

The skin lightening products are:

  1. Movate cream
  2. Maxi light
  3. Skin balance gel
  4. Dermaclair
  5. Epiderm cream
  6. Coco pulp

“These creams among others, have been found to contain Hydroquinone, Mercury and Hydrogen peroxide or steroids. The mentioned compounds are prohibited for use in cosmetics.’’KEBS said on Friday.

Kenya Bureau of Standards added that it’s their duty to eradicate products that are not up to standards.

“It is our intention to rid the market of products that do not meet required standards,” The standards watchdog said.

KEBS say that all skin products containing hydroquinone, steroids and hormonal preparations should be registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons board for consumption.

A good number of African countries including Rwanda and Ghana have banned the use of skin bleaching products.

Skin lightening products contain harmful products such as mercury and high dose steroids which can cause kidney failure among other illnesses.
