Government Suspends Kenyan Passports of 15 Opposition Leaders
The authorities have suspended Kenya passports of 15 National Resistance Movement leaders citing section 31 (1) and (2) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011.
The government further asked them to surrender their travel documents (Kenyam passports) to the immigration offices within twenty one days from receipt of notice.
This has raised mixed reactions among Kenyans with others not finding the exact reason for the suspension since the government cited section 31 (1) and (2) of the Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 which is here below
Reading section 31 (1), we established that probably sub-section (h) which states that ” any other circumstances which in the opinion of the Director would be prejudicial to the interest of the state or holder of the passport…” remains the most appropriate clause in the Act because from the notice seen on social media you can’t tell what crime the opposition leaders committed.
The leaders whose passports have been suspended include: NASA strategist David Ndii, Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, Senators James Orengo & Johnstone Muthama, Governor Hassan Joho and 10 others.
