Manchester United have signed Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo from Shangai Shenhua on loan until the end of the season.

Manchester United have an option to buy the 30-year-old forward at the end of the season.

The former Watford FC striker scored 39 goals in 99 games foe Watford between 2014 and 2017 before leaving for the Chinese Super League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised the Super Eagles striker:’’ Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different centr-forward for the short spell he is staying with us.’’

Ighalo finished as the top scorer in 2019 African Cup of Nations with 5 goals for Nigeria National team. He also scored 7 in the qualifiers.

Ighalo also finished as 2018 CLS second top-scorer with 21 goals with Changchun Yatai despite injuries. In 2019, he has scored 10 times in 19 appearances for new club Shangai Shenhua.

Several Premier League clubs expressed their desire to sign Ighalo but he preferred United. He comes in to replace Marcus Rashford who suffered stress fracture injury.

Ighalo was Manchester United’s third signing this transfer period after Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon and Nathan Bishop from Southend United.
