Morecambe defender Christian Mbulu has died at the age of 23.

Mbulu began his football career at Milwall. He also played for Motherwell, Brentwood, Braintree, Crewe Alexandra.

Mbulu joined Morecambe in January 2020, after a short Spell at Crewe Alexandra.

He made 7 appearances for Crewe after agreeing a short deal in October and joined fellow League 2 side Morecambe in January, making 3 appearances for the club.

Morecambe issued a statement and described Mbulu as an ‘’extremely popular member of the squad‘’ and said ‘’news of his sudden and untimely passing has been a shock to us all’’.

Motherwell chairman Jim McMahon said: ‘’He was such a friendly, pleasant young man who we loved having around Fir Park.

‘’Our thoughts are with the family during this incredible difficult time.’’
