Sharing is Caring

Mali and Burkina Faso have sent war planes to Niger Republic following ECOWAS’s planned military intervention in the West African state.

Niger Republic’s TV reported joint efforts of Burkina Faso and Mali in solidarity with Niger by deploying war planes on 18 August 2023.

“Mali and Burkina Faso turned their commitments into concrete action by deploying warplanes to respond to any attack on Niger,” it said.

The deployed planes were noted to be Super Tucano fighter jets.

The coup leaders in Niger, detained President Mohamed Bazoum and his family on 26 June 2023 and dissolved the democratically elected government of Niger.

ECOWAS defence bosses were ordered to activate the region’s force for action to restore civilian rule in Niger.

The TV station from Niger reported that Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso held a meeting in Niamey where they decided on what to do in the face of the planned attacks by ECOWAS.
