LIST OF PAST DEPORTATIONS FROM KENYA
Most recently, Dr. Miguna Miguna was was deported from Kenya to Canada by the Jubilee Government. This is not the first time a deportation order has been implemented. The unique thing was that the government was deporting a Kenyan citizen by birth.
The other people deported from Kenya to other countries in the past are:
a) Artur Margaryan and Artur Sargasyan – Mercenaries who were brought to Kenyan during Mwai Kibaki administration.
b) US’s John Aristotle Philips and Canadian Andreas Katsouris – Election experts
c) Harry Thuku – Was deported by the British to Kismayu
d) Superintendent Ian Henderson – deported by Oginga Odinga when he was Home Affairs Minister. Ian lead the hunt for Dedan Kimathi and interrogated General China for many hours. He spoke fluent Kikuyu since he was born in Nyeri.
e) Richard Kisch: A journalist who was deported by Mr. Odinga after he misreported the prime Minister’s speech when he worked for The Nation.
f) John Winfred Kodzo Dumoga – Deported by Daniel Moi when he took over from Mr. Odinga as Minister for Home Affairs.
g) Maganlala Jadavrai Batt
h) Mohammed Datoo – was born in Eldoret and was deported for calling KANU youth wingers “dogs”
i) Mrs Ernestine Hammond Kiano – An American wife of Kenya’s first doctorate degree holder Julius Gikonyo Kiano. It’s her husband who requested Moi for her to be deported to America.
j) Dr Annalena Tonelli- Italian nun who compiled the Wagalla Massacre report of 1984 (she was based at a Catholic Mission in Wajir) and submitted it to American diplomat Barbara Lefkow. She was deported by Justus Ole Tipis, the then Internal Security Minister.
k) Sheikh Khalid Balala – A Yemen national who acquired Kenyan citizenship, while visiting Germany he was stripped his Kenyan citizenship in 1994. He regained his Kenyan citizenship in 2002.
