Barcelona’s Argentinean forward Lionel Messi is in talks with the club over a new contract, the club’s Sporting Director Eric Abidal has confirmed.

The 32 year old has spent 18 years with the Laliga giants but his future has been called into question after it emerged that he could leave Camp Nou at the end of the current campaign for free.

The 5 time Ballon d’Or winner is oficially contracted with the Catalan club up to 2021, but the Club’s Sporting Director is hopefull new terms can soon be agreed.

‘’They are already talking. I don’t know if we will have news soon because the decision will depend on the player, but for us as the club I hope it can be sorted as soon as possible.’’ Said Abidal.

When asked if he expects an announcement to be announced, Abidal said: ‘’It will be known when it is known, but I am positive.’’

Eric Abidal also confirmed that youngster and academy product Ansu Fati is in line for a contract extension. This is after he impressed whenever he is given a chance.

‘’We are also talking to him. He is a young player that we have to protect. We have to talk to his family and representatives.’’ Said Abidal.
