Leaders of organizations representing ethnic minority communities have called for embracing of indigenous knowledge including use and improvement of herbal medicine and traditional treatment.

Speaking during a workshop on international human rights and Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4 and 5, Daniel Kobei of Ogiek Peoples Development Programme (OPDP) called upon participants (most of them human rights defenders) to promote their culture. 

Richard Kamngoror of Endorois Welfare Council indicated that indigenous communities have had even scientists and people with technical traditional know including neurosurgeons who used to conduct brain surgeries but because of neglect some of these traditional experts die without passing the knowledge to younger generations.
