In FY 2015/2016 Mandera County had an approved budget of Ksh. 11.50 billion. Mandera had a plan of generating Ksh. 199 million from Own Sources of Revenues and Ksh. 8.9 billion from Equitable Share of revenues.

 

During the year, Mandera County received Ksh. 8.9 billion from the national government and raised Ksh. 88.2 million from Own Sources of Revenues. The own sources of revenue was 44.3 percent of the annual Own Source of Revenue target.

 

The largest source of own revenue collection was land rates which raised Ksh. 18 million or 70.8% of the total Own Revenues sources.

 

In FY 2015/2016, Mandera County spent a total of Ksh. 9.5 billion. This was a 99.8% of all the funds released for spending.

 

In FY 2015/2016, Mandera County spent Ksh. 579 million on tarmacking Mandera Town roads. The construction of County Assembly cost Ksh. 135 million during the year.

 

Education, Culture and Sports

Mandera County had allocated a total of Ksh. 930 million for the Education department. However, only Ksh. 781 million was received what is generally referred to as Exchequer Issues. All the amount received was spent.

Health Services

A total of Ksh. 1.5 billion was budgeted for the health sector in FY 2015/2016. However, only Ksh. 1.4 billion was released from the County Revenue Fund.

Financial Year 2016/2017

In Financial Year 2016/2017 Mandera County had an approved Supplementary budget of Ksh. 12 billion.

 

During the year, Mandera County expected to receive Ksh. 9.6 billion from the National Government in form of Equitable Share and targeted to raise Ksh. 265 million from local revenue sources.

 

During the year, Mandera County received Ksh. 9.6 billion as equitable share of revenues raised nationally and raised Ksh. 55.8 million from local revenue sources. A total of Ksh. 1.8 billion was a cash balance from FY 2015/2016.

 

The local revenue sources performance was 21% of Mandera County’s annual target of Ksh. 265.6 million.

 

In FY 2016/2017, a total of Ksh. 486 million was spent on Relief Food Support Program. This was the largest amount out of the Operations and Maintenance budget.

 

During the year, Mandera County spent Ksh. 5.8 billion on development projects. The money was spent on construction of roads, earth pans, dams, construction of markets, supply of solar equipment on Rhamu Town, Construction of Accident and Emergency Unit in Mandera Town and Elwak Town and Construction of 6-Bed Maternity Ward at Elgolicha Dispensary among other development projects.

 

FY 2017/2018

In the FY 2017/2018 Mandera County had an approved supplementary budget of Ksh. 12.25 billion. The County expected to receive Ksh. 10.36 billion as equitable share of revenue raised nationally.

 

During the year, a total of Ksh. 3.8 billion was spent on development projects. This was decline from the previous year’s expenditure of Ksh. 5.8 billion.

 

Under recurrent expenditure, Ksh. 231 million was spent on County Wide Relief Food.

 

This was followed closely by Ksh. 178 million spent on domestic travel.
