Sharing is Caring

Human Rights Organizations have accused Israel of discriminating against Palestinians in occupied territories under their impressive Covid-19 vaccine campaign. They have so far provided the coronavirus vaccine jab to at least 10th of the country’s population.

Israel has been accused of transporting the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines into the remotest part of West Bank but only the settlers are receiving the jab while their Palestinian neighbors have to wait for weeks or months before they get the jab.

So far, Israel is administering at least 150,000 jabs per day. Israel has a population on 9 million people and at least 1 million have been vaccinated.

Israel is leading in terms of the number of people who have been vaccinated. They have set up vaccine centers at sports stadia and central squares.

Priority is placed on people with over 60 years, front-line healthcare workers, high-risk populations and carers.

Health and young people who walk into the clinics are sometimes rewarded with the jabs to prevent wastage of unused vaccines.

According to Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel will be the first country to emerge from the pandemic.

Israel had invest USD$62 per dose compared to the US’s spending of USD$ 19.5 per dose. It seems economic plays a role here.

Palestinian Authority which does not have sufficient funds is also rushing to acquire the vaccines for the area where they control. It is estimated that the Palestinians will receive their jabs from Feb 2021 under the Covax program. However, World Health Organization has not approved the vaccines for “emergency use”.
