In response to the coronavirus concerns, Iran has temporarily freed 85,000 prisoners, according to the Judiciary spokesman.

‘’Some 50 percent of those released are security-related prisoners. Also in the jails we have taken precautionary measures to confront the outbreak,’’ Said Esmaili Gholamhossein.
The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran earlier this month requested Tehran to free all prisoners from the overcrowded jails to help reduce the risk of spread of coronavirus.
