Hassan Oktay resigns as Gor Mahia Head Coach

Hassan Oktay has resigned as the head coach of Gor Mahia. The Turkish tactician has decided to part ways with the 18 times Kenyan Premier League champions. According to Gor Mahia’s official website, Hassan Oktay had asked for some days off to go back home to handle family challenges.

“Kindly accept my resignation as Gor Mahia FC head coach effective today 6th August 2019. As you are aware, the decision has been forced on me by the challenges I’m facing here in Europe. I wish to thank you and the entire club, including the fans for the opportunity that you accorded me to manage this great club. I wish you well in your forthcoming assignments.” Those were the words Hassan Oktay wrote to Gor Mahia’s chairman Ambrose Rachier.

Hassan Oktay will be remembered for having guided Gor Mahia to lift the 18th Kenya Premier League title.

Following his resignation, Patrick Odhiambo who is the club’s assistant coach is expected to take charge on an interim basis as Gor Mahia embarks on looking for Oktay’s permanent successor.
