The global death toll from coronavirus has exceeded 700,000.

According to data collected and compiled by the John Hopkins University, 700,714 people have succumbed to the deadly virus as of Wednesday at 1000HRS EAT.

The United States is leading with the number of fatalities, with 156,807 deaths recorded.

A total of 4.7 Million Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the US, a home to about 330 Million people.

Brazil and India come second and third respectively in the number of confirmed cases.

2.8 Million cases have been confirmed in Brazil while the case burden in India stands at 1.9 Million.

The United States and Latin America have been hit hard by the pandemic and are struggling to control the spread of the virus.

Covid-19 was initially slower in the Latin America, which is home to over 600 Million people but officials have struggled to contain its spread because of the region’s poverty and densely populated cities.

Over 95, 000 people have succumbed to the virus in Brazil while the death toll in Mexico is nearing 49,000.
