Sharing is Caring

Gabriel Boric has won Chile’s presidential elections after early concession from Jose Antonio Kast last Sunday night of 19 December 2021. His opponent Kast conceded defeat just an hour and half after the polls. That is after half of the ballots were counted.

Boric, a leftist candidate, won with 56 percent of the votes cast while his competitor Kast took home 44 percent of the votes. At the age of 35, Gabriel Boric becomes the youngest President ever in Chile.

Boric had a phone conversation with the outgoing President Sebastian Pinera and the new President promised that he would do his “best to rise to this tremendous challenge.”

Boric served as a leader of student protest and supported mass demonstrations against alleged corruption and inequality in Chile between 2019 and 2020.

Gabriel Boric studied at the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile. He was the President of University of Chile Student Association in 2012.
