Sharing is Caring

John Major, a former British Prime Minister, has expressed his intention to join the suit against Boris Johnston to stop him from suspending the British Parliament in his quest to Brexit.

John Major served as Prime Minister for the United Kingdom (UK) from 1990 to 1997. Gina Miller, the anti-Brexit campaigner had already filed a suit and now the former PM has plans to join that suit. The lawsuit aims at stopping Boris Johnson from suspending parliament for 5 weeks.

John Major said that he want to provide his technical know-how to the courts in his capacity as a former British Prime Minister. This is a tricky position consider that Major and Boris ate members of the same political party.

Analysts have indicated that Boris is using the suspension as a ploy to limit the time available to his opponents to legislate against a no-deal Brexit. Boris Johnson has held his guns that the suspension is constitutional and will make it possible for parliament to start on a new agenda.

The suspension of British Parliament is scheduled to start as from September 9. There is likely to be a serious opposition to the move to suspend parliament when the lawmakers resume from their recess on Tuesday.

Before the Suspension happens, the members of the public are expected to protest on the streets. A campaign group called Momentum has already rallied people to block roads and bridges in 10 major cities in the United Kingdom.

John Major was also guilty for suspending Parliament for his own interest in 1997. At that time Parliament was suspended for 3 weeks before it was then dissolved in preparation for 1997 general elections. Political parties were not amused considering that a report titled “cash for access” would not be discussed in parliament.
