Ali Hassan Mwinyi, 98, died a week ago and was buried in Zanzibar. He was born on May 8, 1925 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

 

He was nicknamed “Mr Permissions” because he allowed many things which had been banned by the previous administrations such as democracy, private ownership of Television, free press and free markets.

 

King Charles of Britain sent his condolence message to family and Tanzanians at large.

 

Ali Mwinyi was buried in Zanzibar on March 2 following 7 days on national mourning.

 

The former President died of lung cancer. He served as president of Tanzania from 1985 to 1995.
