Elche will return to the Spanish-top flight next season after beating 10-men Girona 1-0 away with a stoppage-time winner in the second leg of their promotion play-off final.

Thursday’s first leg in Elche finished 0-0.

Substitute Pere Milla scored in the winner in the sixth minute of the second-half stoppage time. Girona’s Cristhian Stuani was sent-off in the 61st minute.

The win sees Elche return to La Liga after five years.

Elche were relegated to the second tier in 2014-15 season despite finishing 13th. They were demoted due to financial difficulties.

Huesca had already secured their place in the 2020-21 La Liga season as the Segunda Division champions, alongside second-placed Cadiz.
