President Mokgweetsi Masisi has gone into self-quarantine as more and more cases of COVID-19 are being reported across Africa.

The President is reported to have traveled to Namibia to attend the inauguration of Hage Geingob. 

So far Botswana has not reported even 1 confirmed case of COVID-19. 

In Nigeria a prominent personality died as a result of COVID-19. That is Suleiman Achimugu – former Managing Director of Pipeline and Product Marketing company. He was 67 years old at the time of his demise. 

The Son of Atiku Abubakar – former Vice President of Nigeria- also tested positive of COVID-19. 

President of Botswana Masisi has been criticized for his travels abroad despite the COVID-19 outbreak. For instance, Uyapo Ndandi- a prominent human rights lawyer wrote: “No one is immune from coronavirus, we must all suspend our travel abroad. I am disturbed that His Excellence found it fit to go against what his government is preaching against.”

South Africa’s confirmed cases now stands at 270 and President Cyril  Ramaphosa was expected to announce additional measures in fighting the outbreak. 

Mozambique: Minister for Health – Armido Tiago- has announced the first confirmed case of COVID-19. Speaking the the capital Maputo, Tiago told media that the victim was a 75 Mozambique national who had traveled from Britain on Sunday. 

No cases have been reported in Malawi, Lesotho and Botswana. 

Kenya and Ethiopia have announced that they have received COVID-19 testing kits donated by a Chinese Billionaire Jack Ma. 

In the turn of events, the Minister for Culture has directed the suspension of all operations by the newspaper publishers in Morocco. This decision was made as part of the state of health emergence after 109 people were confirmed to have been infected with COVID-19.
