Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked by Napoli despite leading the Serie A club into the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Napoli thrashed Belgian club Genk 4-0 on Tuesday to end a run of 9 games without a win. They secured a second place in group E behind Liverpool.

Former AC Milan manager Gennaro Gatuso is set to replace him.

After beating Genk, Ancelotti indicated that he would be holding talks with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis over his future. However, hours later, Napoli announced Ancelotti’s departure in a statement on Social Media.

It read:”Napoli has decided to revoke the role of technical manager of the first team Mr. Carlo Ancelotti. The relations of friendship, esteem and mutual respect between the company, its president Aurelio De Laurentiis remain intact.”

Ancelotti, a 3 time winner of the Champions League as a tactician, has now been dismissed by his last 3 clubs having previously fired by Both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

The 60 year old has been linked with Premier League clubs Arsenal and Everton, who sacked Unai Emery and Marco Silva respectively.
