Bristol City have sacked head coach Lee Johnson after Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Cardiff City.

Bristol fell to a Danny Ward goal in the 85th minute making in seven defeats in nine games, leaving them 9points off the play-offs with only 5 games remaining.

Bristol were 3 points off the top two when they beat Derby County 3-2 on February 12, but have only collected 2 points from a possible 27 and sit 12th in the Championship table.

Lee Johnson took charge of the Bristol in February 2016.

The club announced on Saturday that Johnson has been relieved of his duties through the club’s official website.

‘’We recognise the huge amount of work that Lee has put in over the last four-and-a-half years to move this club forward and we thank him for all his efforts,’’ said club CEO Mark Ashton.

‘’There have been special moments over those years and Lee has played a significant part in them.

‘’However, success in football is ultimately judged by results and league position, and the board believes that a change of management is needed now for Bristol City.’’

Assistant head coach Dean Holden will be in charge of the team on Wednesday when they face Hull City.
