Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an exceptional goal and netted the winning penalty in a shootout as Arsenal beat Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

Aubameyang gave Arsenal the lead in the first half and Liverpool’s Takumi Minamino equalised in the second half.

The normal 90 minutes action ended in a 1-1 draw, and as a result, the match went into a penalty shootout.

Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster hit the crossbar with his penalty, the only one not converted in the penalty shootout.

It is the second year in a row Liverpool have lost the community Shield on penalties after Manchester City’s win last year.

It was Arsenal’s 16th Shield.
